Melanie Zimmer has performed as a storyteller
and a puppeteer in numerous states throughout the east coast. She is a member of the Puppetry Guild of Upstate
New York, and Puppeteers of America.
She holds puppet making workshops for kids and has created hand, marionette,
and shadow puppets for the regional children's television program "The Enchanted Library" where she also
played the role of Story Mouse presenting her original stories through puppetry.
She has published an article on
the history of puppetry for "Guideposts for Kids" and created a set of Punch and Judy characters for
the American School in China. Melanie Zimmer has been featured in the V.I.P section of The Cambridge Who's Who for her role in entertainment
as Dancing Bear Puppet Theater. |

Melanie Zimmer has been a storyteller for over two decades, presenting her
stories in schools, libraries, at festivals and for telvision audiences. She has been featured on the Mike Price
Segment of Channel Nine News, and has narrated "Peter and the Wolf" with the Syracuse Symphony. She has
presented her stories, and storytelling workshop for the Morrisville Writer's Jubilee, and performed original work
for Telebration. Melanie Zimmer was a long time member of the Pearl in the Egg Storytelling Guild, and is a member
of the League for the Advancement of New England Storytelling. She has studied voice with acting speech pathologist
Jean Armstrong in Portland Maine and the Alexander Technique for Voice & Movement with Martha Hjortshoj of
Ithaca, New York through grants from the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Upper Catskill Community Arts
Council. |

Storyteller Melanie Zimmer has written four books on New York State lore: Central New York and the Finger Lakes Myths Legends and Lore, Forgotten Tales of New York, and Curiosities of Central New York, published by The History Press. Her latest book is Curiosities of the Finger Lakes. Ms. Zimmer has been a storyteller for several decades and enjoys sharing and studying the folklore of the regions of New York State.
Melanie Zimmer has recently created the script for a legendary walking tour app of Midtown Manhattan called “Secrets of Manhattan” “Discover Midtown Manhattan and its legends; explore New York City through its tales” which is available for iPhone or Android phones through PocketGuide Inc. She is a member of the New York Folklore Society. |
